Players have also been drafted to the CHL (OHL, QMJHL) after developing in the WHA system.

Do I need to change schools?

Oxford Prep makes it convenient to focus on academic studies without interruption and participate in our program. Oxford Prep is a hockey program and does not provide academic education and Sabres have a few options in regards to schooling.

Local Players:
Our convenient programming and proximity between Toronto and London Ontario enables players to continue to attend their current secondary school and drive in for training each day. No change in education required!

Non-Local Canadian Players: Players from outside Canada joining the Sabres may choose online schooling or attend the local high school, but this may come with an additional charge from the school board depending on where the player is from.

Non-Canadian/International players: Pyers from outside Canada joining the Sabres may choose online schooling or attend the local high school, but this may come with an additional charge from the school board depending on where the player is from.

Online Schooling: Oxford Prep is uses APEX Online Virtual Learning, an online education platform used by student athletes from outside the country with approx 200 courses available and a minimum of 4 courses per semester.

What are your fees?

Oxford Prep Academy is a cost-effective option when considering the prep hockey pathway. As our program provides the benefit of a private hockey program with the ability to continue academics at your current post-secondary school, student-athletes gain the best of both worlds without the large costs. Our recruitment process will provide information on our fees and expenses.

Sabres also engage in team organized fundraising efforts with each player reducing their tuition fees by the amount they have successfully fundraised. The organization will be hosting 3 large fundraisers throughout the season, where players and families will be selling tickets for different events, prizes, and games.

Do you provide a Billet accomodations?

Oxford Prep Hockey uses the Junior hockey model of the billeting process. Players are matched with a billet family, who then in return will provide meals, transportation, private bedroom (bed, furniture, desk), as a part of the billeting process. Players that are local are not required to billet.

Players will not be living on their own and will almost always be living with a teammate(s). The price of billeting is $700 a month beginning in September. Payments go directly to support the billet family.

The Oxford Prep billet program is designed to offer student-athletes a “home away from home”. A successful billeting experience is truly rewarding for both the host family and the player through the formation of a unique connection that lasts a lifetime. Billeting serves as a widely adopted housing solution across numerous hockey organizations, strategically situating players near renowned hockey hubs worldwide or tailored programs crucial for their developmental journey.

Billet families are carefully selected to ensure that they can provide a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for our student-athletes. Overall, the Billet Program at Oxford Prep Academy aims to create a supportive and nurturing environment that supports personal growth and athletic development for student-athletes both on and off the ice.

What can I expect for travel and accommodations?

Buses will be provided in the cost of registration. We will be taking a minimum of 2 coach buses to away showcases in the 2025-26 season. Accommodations and meals for away games, showcase, and tournaments are not included in Oxford Prep fees and are the responsibility of the player/parent. Players will stay with players at these showcases, and costs will typically be split by 4, as there will be 4 players to a hotel room, unless parents want to travel to the showcases. All bookings and reservations for hotels can be done by the parent or the team manager who will be in contact with the billet players families.

Do I need insurance?

International players outside of North America must provide their own insurance for travel and liability. Our team covers some injury and travel insurance for players outside of North America, but we highly recommend getting your own insurance.

Who is the governing body?

We're governed by the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), an amateur sports organization based in the United States. A multi-sport organization, the AAU is dedicated exclusively to the promotion and development of amateur sports and physical fitness programs. It has more than 900,000 members nationwide, including more than 100,000 volunteers covering Prep programs highly recruited by NCAA programs.
